Meet Walter – The Fish

Welcoming Our Office Therapy Fish!

There’s a new friendly face joining us at Middle Path Counseling MO in Mallories office —and while it may not greet you at the front desk, it’s sure to bring some calm and curiosity to our space. Meet our beautiful new Betta fishWalter, now swimming happily in our office therapy aquarium!

Why a Therapy Fish?

Studies show that watching fish can help lower blood pressure, reduce stress, and create a sense of tranquility. Aquariums are often used in therapeutic environments for just this reason—they offer a gentle, peaceful distraction and encourage mindfulness in the moment.

A Splash of Color

Our Betta fish’s vibrant colors and graceful movements, paired with cheerful blue and pink decor, bring positive energy to our therapy office. Whether you’re waiting for your appointment or taking a moment to breathe, watching our fish can be a soothing, meditative experience.

DBT & Mindfulness in Action

If you’re familiar with Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), you know that mindfulness is at its heart. Pausing to notice the fish swimming or observing its tiny world is a great way to practice mindfulness. Try this next visit:

  • Focus on the movement of the Betta, the bubbles in the water, and the colors in the tank.
  • Take a few slow breaths and let your mind rest for a minute.
  • Notice if your body feels a bit more relaxed afterward.

Wishing you calm waters ahead!
